Yongjia, a county boasting a history of over 1800 years, is the cradle for the Yongjia School of Thoughts, the Yongjia School of Poetry (represented by Yongjia’s four distinguished poets who valued nature and simplicity), and the Southern Opera, which all originated and developed mainly during the Song Dynasty (960-1279). Over 200 ancient villages alongside the Nanxi River, with their styles of the Song Dynasty remaining intact through all the vicissitudes in ancient China, integrate into an ancient village group with a unique flavor, a prototype epitomizing the culture of Song Dynasty.

represented by the Southern Opera (Nanxi, 南戏 ), and G for the “farming-reading” culture (Gengdu, 耕读 ) represented by “ancient villages” (Gucunluo, 古村落 ). Yongjia is to draw these tourism resources and bring the concept of “SONG” to the fullest play. The county will fuel itself with the SONG culture Village and the Nanxi River Music Town high on its agenda. The Nanxi River will be where the landscape poems and the culture of the Song dynasty intermingle, and “SONG”, as its unique cultural symbol, will give wings to the culture and tourism of this 1800-year-old county.

Based on a wide collection of tourist and cultural symbols, Yongjia finally summarizes its “SONG” culture. “SONG” is the pinyin of the Chinese character “ 宋 ”, which refers to the Song Dynasty. When the letters S-O-N-G are interpreted respectively, S stands for the poetry culture represented by the landscape poems (Shanshuishi, 山水诗 ), O for the culture of the Ou city, the name of Wenzhou in ancient China, represented by “Ou kiln” (Ouyao, 瓯窑 ),N for the opera culture .
